Farmers have planted crops on 90% of the cultivable area across India, helped by good monsoon rainfall in most parts of the country. Area under cultivation is 10% more than that a year ago.

Planting had slowed down as the monsoon weakened in July, but its revival in the past week has accelerated farm activity. Official data shows that area under rice is 17.36% more than that last year while oilseeds area is up 15.50%.
