The association said that knee-jerk reactions will not help and the country can reduce the dependence on Chinese imports by developing an ecosystem for manufacturing.
While there has been no official instruction on 100% checking of consignments coming from China, Chennai and some other ports began closer scrutiny of Chinese imports a few days ago.
The apex association of Indian exporters also said the country needs to inculcate a practice of supporting its business like China does and its recent ask of increasing incentives to exports from the government is not a dole.
“This is the minimum we need to sustain. We are not asking for any dole. These are reimbursements,” said Sharad Kumar Saraf, president, FIEO at a virtual event.
His statement comes in the wake of commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal saying that the focus of the government is on sustainable growth and not “handouts”.
