NEW DELHI: Sugar traders are eyeing export deals with China, which they say are viable despite customs duty of 50%, but are afraid that the border tensions between India and China may cast a shadow on the trade.

“We can export 300,000 tonnes of sugar to China in next two to three months,” said Praful Vithalani, chairman, All India Sugar Trade Association. India will be competing with Brazil, Cuba and Thailand to meet China’s demand of 4 mt sugar, exporters said.
