In a bid to avoid human contact, the Delhi transport department has planned to provide e-tickets to passengers in Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and cluster buses. State government has given the job to Indraprastha Institute of Information and Technology (IIIT) to develop an API, based on digital payments, followed by generating etickets similar to what IRCTC does in Indian Railway and various airline companies for flight operations.

Dr Pravesh Biyani, associate professor at IIIT said, “Through paper tickets in DTC and cluster buses, the chances of infection become quite high.”

“The API is based on QR code wherein passengers have to fill their travel details, identity proofs and pay the amount through digital payment like Bhim UPI, Paytm, G-pay etc. It will be a complete contactless process,” said Dr Biyani.

“The trial run of such a programme was successfully conducted in cluster buses and we will soon conduct trials in DTC buses in the last week of this month,” he added.
