Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday, said the government is mapping the global skills requirements while exhorting Indian youth to skill, reskill and upskill in order to remain relevant in the rapidly changing business environment and market conditions.

“There are a lot of opportunities opening up across sectors and all over the globe. The ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship is mapping the global requirements of skills,” he said.

Since the launch of Skill India Mission in 2015, nearly 5.5 crore youth have been trained under various skilling schemes.

“Skill India Mission launched five years back has led to creation of a vast infrastructure for skilling, reskilling and upskilling and enhancing opportunities to access employment both locally and globally,” PM Modi said in his virtual address on the occassion of the World Youth Skills Day.

According to PM Modi, in the last five years hundreds of PM Kaushal Kendras are being set up across the country and efforts are being made to increase the capacity of the ITI ecosystem. “Due to these concerted efforts, more than five crore youth have been skilled in the last five years,” he said.

Referring to the ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship portal ASEEM, launched recently for mapping of skilled employees and employers, PM Modi said this would help the skilled workers, including the migrant workers who have returned to their homes, to access jobs easily and the employers to contact skilled employees through the portal.
