Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya has hit out at Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for allegedly tweeting wrong figures of the novel coronavirus deaths in Agra.

Keshav Prasad Maurya accused Priyanka Gandhi of resorting to “cheap politics” amidst coronavirus pandemic and said action will be taken against her if she doesn’t respond to the notice served by Agra District Magistrate for posting “false” figures of the Covid-19-related deaths in the city.

“Congress general secretary is resorting to cheap politics since Covid-19 cases started emerging in UP. The claim of deaths made by her in Agra due to Covid-19 is false. The district administration has served her notice and if she fails to reply then we will take action,” Keshav Prasad Maurya told India Today.

“Earlier, the Congress indulged in bus politics and when their state party president Ajay Lallu was sent to jail, Priyanka Gandhi didn’t even meet him,” Keshav Prasad Maurya said.

Keshav Prasad Maurya also hit out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his statements on the Galwan clash. The UP deputy CM said that the “Gandhi family should apologise for making baseless allegations on the Covid-19 situation and LAC face-off”.

“Rahul Gandhi, on the other hand, is raising questions on the courage shown by our forces along LAC. Congress is the main opposition party in our country but it behaves like a supporter of China and Pakistan. When all the other parties supported the government and Army in the meeting called by the PM, Sonia Gandhi was in disagreement. I think the entire Gandhi family should apologise for the language used and the baseless allegations leveled on the Covid-19 situation and on the LAC face off,” Keshav Prasad Maurya said.

Agra DM issues notice to Priyanka Gandhi

Agra DM Prabhu N Singh had sent a notice to Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday asking for a corrigendum within 24 hours for her tweet which claimed that 28 deaths took place due to Covid-19 in Agra in 48 hours.

According to Agra DM, such “false information demotivates the corona warriors”

“The figure of 28 deaths in Agra due to Covid-19 in 48 hours is false,” the Agra DM said in a tweet, as he shot off a letter to Priyanka Gandhi via the post, demanding her to retract her statement.

Priyanka Gandhi responds to Agra DM’s notice

However, after the DM notice, Priyanka Gandhi once again questioned the coronavirus situation in Agra by posting a tweet and sought Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s response.

“The death rate in Agra is scary. Out of every 15, one COVID patient has died. 28 casualties in 48 hours, out of the total 79 deaths is a big negligence. I urge the CM to keep detailed investigation report within 48 hours infront of the public,” Priyanka Gandhi posted on Twitter.

In another tweet, Priyanka claimed that the death rate in Agra was higher than Mumbai and Delhi.

Targeting DM Agra for sending her notice, Priyanka Gandhi said “an officer should focus on fixing the loopholes and ensuring better facilities rather than blaming others for the negligence”.

Meanwhile, Congress legislative party leader Aradhna Mishra said: “A letter by CM office says that Yogi Adityanath is unhappy over discrepancy in the Covid death figures. This vindicates our stand that figures are being manipulated by the government.”

Other reactions on Priyanka Gandhi-Agra coronavirus cases row

Reacting to this, Hindustani Biradari Vice-Chairman Vishal Sharma slammed Priyanka Gandhi and said her tweet is based on “misconstrued information”.

Social activist Vijay Upadhyay said that Priyanka Gandhi “should have at least read the news report correctly as it only gave the tally of Covid-19 patients who had succumbed to the infection within 48 hours of admission”. “It did not say anywhere that 28 patients had died in the past 48 hours,” Vijay Upadhyay said.
