The highest compensation was given to Maharashtra at Rs 19,233 crore followed by Karnataka at Rs 18,628 crore, finance ministry said in a statement.
“Central government has recently released GST Compensation of Rs 13,806 crore to states for March 2020,” the ministry said, adding that in order to release the compensation for FY20, the balance of cess amount collected in 2017-18 and 2018-19 was also utilised.
“In addition, centre had transferred Rs 33,412 crore from Consolidated Fund of India to the Compensation Fund as a part of an exercise to apportion balance of integrated GST pertaining to 2017-18,” the government said.
Among states, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Punjab were the other large receivers of the compensation.
As per the statement, five states including Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Manipur received no GST compensation.
